UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!
Here is a article I found in the Huffington Post about a 35year old young man who along w/autism has an unbelievable gift. He can draw entire cities from memory... They say, most children w/Autism usually have special gifts. Becuz, of they're in-ability 2either talk, socialize, and at times function in so called normal society they're other senses are hightenened. In this particular case Stephens photographic memory is his "gift." I believe Malik also has a remarkable special, special "gift" although, we r still searching .... In time, I knoe the gift will find us.....until then njoy this footage. It is absolutely amazing.!! .....

DR'S VISIT
Finally .....we saw the doctor,.... After the waiting room experience I realized we had another new Dr. I didn't catch her name (her name is written on forms she gave me)
The new Dr wanted 2take blood test & urine so they could see how Malik was doing ... of course Malik wasnt goin 4it!!! He fought that blood taker ....boyyyeeeee ...then he fought me ..... I excused him...bcuz I figured he was still as angry as I was about the 2n the waiting rm ... boy, is Malik strong!
Bcuz he wouldn't allow the PCT to take his blood, we had 2go to the hospital where they had the equiptment 2strap or hold Malik down 2draw his blood...so we go all the way 2 the hospital and he sat there and let them take his blood w/no problem ....... I looked at him and said "of course u would ....of course u'll allow them 2take blood after we came all the way over here" ....
We have to wait until the potassium and vitiamin D/C levels come back along w/the urine sample and we'll go from there ...
I'm very optimistic the urine & blood samples will all come back good!

LONG WAY 2GO!
Yesterday, Malik went back 2his endocronologist for his check up .... the whole visit started on a bad note 4me . 1st of all ... i realize it's up 2parents 2keep track of appointments...but, as every1 knoe's life at times isnt that simple ...there r usually so many things going on n our day/week/month ...Its hard 4me 2keep track ......so what i started doing was write appt's n my bberry....with my technology skills being shabby ...I wrote the appt. 4 the actual day of Monday instead of reminding myself on Sunday about the appt on Monday!!! i knoe....iknoe .. ...duuuuhhhhh ...so we're running around late ... c r a z y trying 2get it together ...when we got there I had nerve 2let the office assistants knoe I was late becuz they did not remind me of the appt..... yea, further humiliating myself ! .... the office assistant informed me becuz we were late the dr. decided 2take the ppl who were here on time... b4 me!,,,,
WOW! ... I looked @ her n disbelief like " u really said that 2my face huh?" ...so Malik and I sat down n the waiting area & we're waitin,,,,,,, &waitin,..... & waitin........ when I notice a young man he could have been 14, 15 or so ...he kept staring @Malik ... ..now Malik is a slim tall young man ..like n e other kid but, when u watch and pay attention 2his behavior u'll start 2notice !
So I guess the young man was startin 2notice Malik ......becuz of Malik's constant need for physical stimulation ..he rocks back n forth n his seat and he uses his hand and moves it back n forth n front of his face, he smiles to himself, he twitches/jerks constantly w/his hand and whole body ... so, I could understand if u look at him then u notice his behavior then u look away u may look again then look back away ...but, n stead of the normal reaction I usually get from ppl ..this young man got his mothers attention .......and when she noticed Malik's behavior she looked at him then she burst out into laughter !!!!! then the young man laughed !!! ....
The behavior was so unexpected and caught me off guard I couldn't respond ...I just kept staring @them both!!! ... when I think about it now ...i'm glad i wasnt able 2respond bcuz i'm not 2sure what would have came out!! as n e mother is I am really really really PROTECTIVE over my special gift from GOD ....so it's a good thing when the nurse came thru the door & called our name I was still basically n a trance and never responded 2 that inexcusable behavior.... I can not control ppl's reaction 2 Malik's behavior and do not want 2 that would be toooo exhausting.... but ppl will not ....repeat will not make fun of his disability!!! ...the mother & son I encountered r exactly the type of ppl I fear! If her reaction was to laugh in front of my face think what she could have said or done had I not been there and not watching!!!!
While, the public is more educated and informed ...we still have a long way 2go !!!
anytime a grown woman w/a teenage son can find humor in another childs disability is not only ignorant but, says alot about us as a Society!!!

HOLLY ROBINSON-PEETE!
I wanted 2share w/every1... I've recently been in touch w/mother, actress, autism activist Holly Robinson-Peete....I invited her 2read &join the blog. I am really trying 2tell our story of "Our Journey w/Autism"

FEELING BETTER!
Well, my whole household was recently down for the count! I'm so excited 2say we r all feeling betta!
The sniffles, sore throat, fever and cough started w/Malik, and me being the greedy always wanting 2be apart of Malik's world ...I got the sniffles the soar throat, cough and of course the headbanger headache along w/all the trimmings of chills and fever....My husband Shawn wasn't greedy ..he was not tryin 2be apart of our world ...he escaped w/just a lil soar throat and cough.....but, as I said we r all feeling so much better
Malik is out of schoool 2day and Monday... I plan 2celebrate our better health by treating him 2bowling 2morro..........

1 in every 91 American Children have a diagnosis of Autism and 1 in every 58 boys r diagnoised!I wonder if the results of this study is becuz there r so many kids on the spectrum now? still, the numbers are staggering !

911 SERVICE PROTECTS DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED KIDS
This is a great story. I think this service should be implemented all around the country. Oftentimes, I worry about this. With Malik becoming bigger & stronger outsiders or authority figures who are not familiar w/his disability could mistake his behavior negatively.

NEW SCHOOL YEAR
Hello All,
It's so good 2talk 2evry1 again, how have you been?? Well, as u knoe Summer is definitely ova!!! And school has officially begun. Malik had an exciting summer but, I must admit I am looking forward 2the new school year!
We have a new Speech Therapist this year (yeeeeaaaaa) I spoke w/the new therapist she seems really knowledgeable and eager 2work w/Malik. Most importantly she came highly recommended by Maliks's teacher Mrs. Jilliett.
The therapist has her own practice and (check this out) she has a staff of occupational therapist also! ...I am very excited about Malik receiving therapy outside of his school environment, and looking forward to a new relationship !
School so far has been good. Malik gets up every morning with a renewed vigor (which is really shocking) I cant help recalling all the times he would have a hard time getting up and being motivated!
I think a lot of his excitement comes from riding the school bus again!!!!
And, we finally found Malik a wonderful afterschool program . It's near our home, clean, and the staff really really care about Malik he's making great friends! The Afteschool is called "Serving One of Us" its a great program! In the near future I would like do some fundraising for them. This way we could have a great summer program for the kids!
Anywho, here's to the New school year! hoping for the best year yet !

Today was a good day !!! Today Malik attended his first professional Women's basketball game...The Atlanta Dream vs The Seattle Storm @Philps Arena!
Malik was great during the whole game ....he was so excited we went with the Conyers Park and Recreation Center. Malik is really turning into a well rounded young man if I do say so myself ......LOL ....here r a few flicks if Malik enjoying the game ....

EUNICE KENNEDY SHRIVER
I am saddden again by another pioneer of rights for the Mentally Challenged passing!
When most people talk about their favorite Kennedy they will mention the Former President John F Kennedy, or his wife Jackie, and even their son John Jr but, when my family and I first realized the journey we would take with our son.
We were asked a year or so after Malik enrolled at the Birch School in NYC if he could participate in the Special Olympics with his classmates I learned then of Eunice Kennedy Shriver's creation of the Special Olympics.
She instantly became my favorite Kennedy!
Malik has participated each year since then. He looks forward to the races and the bowling!
On behalf of my family I would like to Thank Mrs. Eunice Kennedy Shriver for thinking of individuals like Malik and realizing they deserve the right to experience the whole team spirit of sportsmanship too ! With all the challenges they face on a daily basis, it's truly a blessing for them to have their own Olympics!!!!
The Special Olympics was created in 1968 and is still going strong in 2009!!!
Mrs Kennedy Shriver was a visionary and a giving person ....she will be missed !!!

VERNON FORREST.....RIP!!!!
I just wanted 2take a few moments 2recognize a true champ not only n the ring but, also 4his charitable heart!!!
A few weeks ago Vernon Forrest lost his life in a senseless robbery!!!
I recalled how I first learned of Vernon Forrest's life outside the ring, a couple of years ago during my summer quest for Malik a camp to attend. I saw a program on TV, they did a profile on the young lady who was featured in rapper Big Boi's "I like the way you move" video. The female's name is Ki Toy Johnson (she also happen to be Big Boi's sister in law )
She along w/a few others stared a Organization called Destiny's Child Inc.
I immediately called the organization hoping Malik could get into the summer program. That's when I learned Mr. Vernon Forrest was one of the founding members of the organization.
Although, the program could not accommodate our needs, becuz at the time the organization dealt w/adults with special needs. The organization helped w/daily personal needs of the individuals and offered housing.
It is still a wonderful organization. I continue to check and watch the organization grow each year, I also keep it in my "favorites" on my computer.
So, this news saddens me 2no end .... What a terrible lost to society!!!!!!~~
Not only did his family lose a son, brother, father, and a friend, the World has lost a good MAN with a Wonderful Heart!!!

We also have pics from Neicy's wedding back n May and I have some pics of my cuz Myra (finally come to ATL for a visit) my uncle Greg and I going to a ole school Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant concert .... we had a ball !!!!
Seeing my family and hanging out w/every1 was great!!!!
But, my bestest highlight of this summer was watching my son participate n a Basketball game !!!! he was awesome!!!!
I was actually n tears!!! I couldn't believe it!!! u had to c Malik 2believe him ....
He was sooooo excited !!!! ....One of my earlier post had 2do with me saying how Malik would probably never be apart of a team!!!!
Well Kill that!!!!! Malik beat more obstacles !!!! He's constantly beating all the odds!!!
Malik is (check this out) also apart of a baseball league .....I knoe!!!! he plays on Saturdays ....look for more pics of his baseball ....games!!!...Malik being part of any type of sports team is a dream come true for me and Shawn .... Seeing these dreams materialize makes me knoe WE R TRULY BLESSED!!!!
